Losing weight is very hard. But here are a few tips that can help you.
Drink lots and lots of water. If you do not care for water that much, try adding a lemon or lime to it. This will give it some flavor. You can also add Crystal Light to it, which will not give it that many calories. Or you can brew some herbal tea and do not use sweetener with it. If you must use anything for flavor resort to lemon juice.
If you crave sweets, keep hard candy on hand. Eating the hard candy takes time to dissolve in your mouth and often by the time it is gone, your craving is gone. Buy a variety of hard candies, from fruit flavors to chocolate flavors to keep cravings at bay.
Another tip is if you crave something, go for a walk or read a chapter in a book. Often by doing this you will eliminate your craving. If after you do go for the walk or read a chapter and you are still craving something, give in and do it in moderation. Do not deprive yourself or you will fail.

How to not gain weight at the hoildays

It is very easy to gain weight during the holidays. But with some simple steps you can avoid gaining weight.
Before going to a party drink a few glasses of water to really fill you up. Or you could try eating a healthy meal before you go to avoid snacking so much at the party.
Avoid filling up on empty calories that are in alcoholic beverages. Sure, they may taste good, but wouldn’t you rather spend that calorie allowance on something else?
At the party, try to pick the most healthful snacks and appitizers. Maybe there will be a relish tray packed with good for you veggies. Or a fruit tray with tantalizing fruits. Or if you have to take something to share for the party, take one of these with a lowfat, low calorie dip. There are many on the market today that taste great.
Or if you must have a snack that is not so healthy, eat it in moderation. Take only a small portion and slowly eat it, savoring each bite.
Follow these simple rules and you will not have any problems with the holidays.

Weight loss

There is no separate diet for men and women for losing weight. The average men have a higher metabolic rate than women, because they are heavier, taller and with a higher percentage of lean tissue (muscle). Hence, men eat more and need more calories than women. Apart from this, both men and women can follow the same “healthy eating” type of diet. However, for men and women who do lots of physical work or are professional sportsmen or (muscle builders), they may require more of protein as diet supplements instead of increasing the portion of their food intake. The only to lose weight for both men and women is to follow a simple fat-free diet and do adequate exercise.

If you are a regular eater of fatty meat, giving it up will no doubt reduce your weight, however cutting down on one large and important food group isn’t a good idea. If you are thinking of giving up meat altogether, it would be better to replace it with other proteins like fish and high quality plant foods like pluses, whole grains, nuts, seeds and so on. You will need a way of eating which you can follow for the rest of your life it you want to stay slim, which is actually more important than getting slim.

Here are few motivational suggestions which can be useful to achieve positive mental health.

According to one author, happiness is mental emotion. Happiness is not a material thing. In fact, happiness is hidden in your mind. Many people discover happiness in external world. But it is not there and will never be.

Happiness comes from you. It comes from your thoughts. It is in your action which you do daily. Don’t run behind happiness. It is your mental state. That can be acquired. But it can’t be bought by spending money.

Second thing is enthusiasm. Be enthusiastic. Those who have it, their life are colored with happiness. Because of enthusiasm, you can overcome depression, distress, fear of mind.

You should have faith in your work. Enthusiastic person don’t wait for luck of co-incident and always get success. Once you start to work with enthusiasm, your happiness increases day by day. And of course, it requires your inner involvement.

Meditation is one of the best ways to achieve balance mental health. While doing meditation, you look inside of yourself. Then, slowly you start to get absorbed in world of soul. You take pleasure.

When completing meditation, you will feel your mind in your control. Actually, soul controls mind. If you want to realize this experience again and again, do daily meditation. At first, you will experience many obstacles which are created by mind. Sometime you become unstable due to not concentrating your mind while meditating. But don’t lose patience. This patience is true mean by which you can control you mind.

Meditation increases your mind power. The mind is unstable and will be forever if not control on it. By mediation you become positive towards life. You don’t be unstable at every moment of life. In fact, you remain always in balance attitude. You always experience peace inside you and that is … essential to overcome your mind.

Journal to Lose Weight

If you are trying to lose weight and the weight is not coming off as quickly as you would like, try journaling and writing down every piece of food and drinks that go into your mouth. A recent study found that people who write down and journal everything they put into their mouths will lose twice as much weight as those people who don’t.

I have journaled and kept a diary of what I was eating in the past and found that while I thought I wasn’t eating much, I was eating more than I should be. When tempted to eat something we shouldn’t, knowing you have to write it down and that act in itself makes you accountable, you are more likely to resist the temptation of eating something unhealthy.

So if you are trying to lose weight and you are having a lot of trouble getting motivated to do so or the weight is just not coming off, journal and write down every bite!

7. Don’t empty your plate - leave some food behind to cut down on portions. Making small changes can prevent overeating.

8. Avoid alcoholic beverages - drinking alcohol causes you to burn less fat. Drinking cold water instead will kick start your metabolism.

Portions and Servings: What is the Difference?

It’s important to understand the difference in a portion and a serving, especially if you are trying to lose or maintain weight.

A portion is the quantity of food you choose to eat at one time. For example…a half of a pie may be a portion to you, while a slice may be a portion to someone else.

A serving is more precise and is a specific amount of food as listed on labels. This isn’t necessarily the amount suggested to eat, but a guide to let you know how many calories and nutrients are in a specific serving size.

Watching your portions is important. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know there are many more calories in a half of a pie than one slice. But, if you don’t know how many calories and nutrients are in that one slice, you could be consuming a lot more calories than you realize.

It’s important to read food labels carefully. They list the calories and nutrients per serving and most packaged foods have more than one serving. By not paying attention to what is in each serving, it’s easy to consume too many calories, fats and sodium. For those on any type of restricted diet, it’s even more important to understand what each serving contains.

If you are trying to lose or maintain weight, pay close attention to your portions, but educate yourself on servings and what each contain. It can make the difference in diet success or failure.

Losing Weight: It isn’t Just for Looks

Some people want to lose weight in order to look better. Some people get in a hurry to lose weight the wrong way for this reason, which can be as detrimental to health as being overweight. Losing weight for looks should be the secondary focus. Losing weight should be about health. Extra weight can put you at risk for many health issues, such as:

  • high blood pressure
  • stroke
  • heart disease
  • some forms of cancer
  • type 2 diabetes
  • gallbladder disease
  • liver disease
  • osteoarthritis, which is a wearing away of the joints
  • sleep apnea (breathing stops during sleep for short periods)
  • irregular menstrual periods

Especially as we age, these risks are even higher. It’s best to start an exercise program and a healthy eating lifestyle early in life and maintaining it. But, it’s never too late to start. The key is to start slow and be consistent. Make changes that are lasting. The reflection you’ll see in the mirror may be smiling back at you, but more than anything, your risks for health issues will be decreased.
