Juicing, The Cons

Many of you have seen that infomercial about Jacks power juicer. It made juicing look so good and so healthy that I requested a juicer for Christmas the year before last. I used it and enjoyed it. I figured it was a great way to get my servings of fruits and vegetables, and it is.
One thing I did not consider was that as a diabetic it was not the best idea. As far as fruits are concerned the problem with juicing is that you are removing a lot of the fiber. The fiber is important because it helps balance the high level of sugars and carbs left in the juice.
The other thing to consider is the cost of buying enough of the produce to make glasses of juice for the family. Then of course there is the cleaning of the juicer. Depending on what kind you have, it can really be a pain scrubbing and rinsing the pulp out of the screen basket.
Now I use my juicer less and mostly for vegetables, when I find a good sale.
The Secret To Food

As I do more and more research I am becoming convinced that the food we use to fuel our bodies has everything to do with what ails us. With every study we are finding out more about connections between diseases and diet. When we’re lucky we hear about diets that control and even cure certain conditions. Sometimes it’s confusing because we hear about a certain food that was good for us yesterday but bad for us today.
The secret is, to break down and find out why one food could be both good and bad for us. Once you do that you will most likely see that it’s for different reasons. For example, regular coffee is bad for someone with diabetes type 2, but decaf coffee is good for diabetics. It’s the caffeine that makes the difference.
I have also recently heard that when you put a good fat into the microwave you are changing it and it becomes a transfat. I have not found information yet that indicates that it’s true, but the suspicion is enough for me not to reheat foods like that in the microwave for the time being.
The point is by paying attention to what and how we eat we can make ourselves healthier and happier.
Avoid Stress Searching For A Job

By now we’ve all heard that stress is bad for your health, so any chance to rid ourselves of stress is a good thing.
One of the big stresses in life can be looking for a job. People who are confident and outgoing seem to float through the process and find jobs without breaking a sweat. Other people are not so lucky. They find that even filling out applications are stressful. It may be because of lack of confidence or they feel unqualified, or maybe they are older and competing for positions with younger people. Whatever the reason, they find the search almost terrifying. Here are some tips to remember if this describes you.
- Don’t look at the application and process as a whole, take it one step at a time, one line at a time.
- Keep a list of previous jobs and all relevant information to refer back to. Many people don’t and scramble to try and remember dates and numbers with each application.
- Remember that there really is more than just one job opportunity for you. If you feel like you’ve messed up on one, learn from your mistakes and avoid them on the next one.
- There is no shame in taking an entry level position. If you are more qualified you can still take the entry job while keeping your eyes open for a way to get a promotion, or a new job all together. Take pride in the fact that you got a job and are bringing an income in.
- Be honest during your interview. Sell yourself. People have gotten jobs simply by giving a great first impression by a good personality and being nicely dressed.
- If you have restrictions as to hours or travel tell your potential employer right up front. This will help to avoid stress later if you’ve agreed to take the job and then have to stress about how you will get there.
I hope these few tips help you in your job search!
