Health Conscious

I have been living in Singapore for almost a year now and I noticed that majority of the residents are health conscious. When I go to the supermarkets, most of the cold cuts no longer have the skin part. Yes, the yummy part is missing. hehe. I rarely see it here.
If I go to the beverages section, I see a lot of tea and flower-flavored drinks. One combo is an apple and aloe extract juice. Another, crysanthemum tea. Whew! I admire them for being able to drink such. I simply cannot. Maybe it is why they live a very good life.
In the morning, I often see group of elders doing taichi and others jogging. And in most eateries (hawker as what they call it), most elders still work as service crews. I applaud their stamina for such activities because back home in the Philippines, I rarely see elders do same thing. They would prefer a non-extrenous activity such as gardening or reading.
I think that no matter where we are and what other people would say, it is solely our decision on how to make ourselves worth living for. We should learn to be conscious of our healths for our own self-fulfillment and to others.

Since I moved to Singapore where majority of the residents are Chinese, I rarely see people drink soda. Most of them especially the elders drink green tea or any other kinds of tea. I noticed that most of the stores sell different kinds of tea. There is black, green, and brown tea. Not only do they sell tea, weird thing is that they also sell some flower-flavored teas.
I started to wonder what is with the tea? China, Japan, Korea and other countries are the main produces of tea. No wonder most Asian people prefer it over other beverages. I found out that it is good for the health.
It claims to help normalize blood pressure. It’s content helps prevent carcinogens. Tea is also a good cleanser of the body. For me, I use tea for my eyes after dunking it in hot water. hehe. I realized most of my personal stuffs have tea. I have began to adapt the culture of Chinese people here in Singapore. Let us all drink tea to stay healthy.

There are so many ways to live a healthy lifestyle. Swimming is one of the most recommendable way to work that body to stay healthy.
Swimming is a good exercise for the body. It is not only a sport but recreational as well. I have asthma and I find swimming a good exercise for me. They say it is really good for the heart. It helps relax the muscles and balance the oxygen in the body.
In the event that people with cardio problems don’t know how to swim, they can just stay inside the water as long as it is above their chest deep. By mere standing in the water, heart is being exercised with the right balance of oxygen. Swimming is also used to rehabilitate injured people to help them relax their muscles and joints.
I am glad that I am able to swim. It is a good relaxing activity after a stressful day at work. To all of you out there who have asthma, heart and lung diseases, let us practice a good oxygen exercise through swimming. Let’s help ourselves to stay healthy.

I have never been a food adventurer until I got to Singapore. This country is diversified with different cultures and most of their food recipes are spicy.
I am not a chili fan at all. But true with what people say, if you “can’t beat them, join them.”
Slowly I started to put some spice in my food. Pepper is the frequent spice in my food. I’ve come to appreciate the appetite of eating with a little spicyness. For me, I used to think that the “chili hot” feeling disturbs the mood of eating. But to others, it is what keeps the food alive.
And so I had to find a way myself to convince eating as well as appreciate spicy food. I did some researches on what I can get from eating with pepper in it.
I found out that there are actually medicinal advantage in pepper. In third world countries some centuries back, it was used as medicine for earache, diarrhea, hernia, indigestion, insomnia, joint pain, tooth decay and toothaches and other more.
I am delighted to know that a little spice can actually add a lot to life. Although, we should not be too complacent of what we eat. Too much of something is not good. Therefore, just eat the right amount of food that contains pepper to balance the response in your body system.

Since the invention of online video games, we see only a few children playing traditional games outdoor. They have lesser chance of developing their physical and social strengths. They lack the ability to communicate with other people. Some even has inferiority complex. Most children now prefers to either stay home, or left alone playing PSP or Wii.
We should help children in the awareness of protecting their eyesight. We see a lot of children wearing eyeglasses. At an early age, children are exposed to too much radiation from playing long hours in the computer.
Let us educate and guide them in eating the right foods that are rich in vitamins to protect the eye from getting diseases. Children are not aware of what they are getting into. We should not take our eyes for granted. If we have started to live a healthy life, we should not let our children experience the unhealthy one. A family that lives healthy, stays healthy together.

It is vital for elders to be a role model to youngsters. Environment is one factor that can affect the lifestyle of a person. In the presence of various forms of media advertisement, we often see young people imitating what they see.
As a parent, it is important to teach their children on how to live a healthy life. Oftenly, we see teenagers smoking, drinking alcohol, and other vices. It is essential to guide and inform youngsters its bad effects. If a parent has such vices, it would be best not to let their children see it.
Sometimes, we tend to do these vices as an excuse for a broken heart, tensed, stressed and the likes. Children may also find it an excuse to try because of curiosity and because of what they see from others and to their parents and other family members.
We should all help each other lessen this kind of problem. Having a healthy life is easy to say but difficult to do for most of us. If we would like to be seen as a model, let us show the youngsters what they should see realistically. Be a “like father like son” image in a good and healthy way.

To all the computer-addicts like me, we need to take extra care with your hands. Did you know that repetitive hand activity can cause you an ailment called Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
It has been one of the latest findings that CTS is associated to excessive work. With the use of computer basically in everything we do, CTS is an evident proof. The use of wrist and other stressful wrist bending are a few of the symptoms.
For me, I personally experience a repetitive hand activity through blogging and at work. Studies claims that meat packers and other industrial kind of work have such. I’d like to included office work that requires too much typing like what I do. hehe
The solution to this is to take a break from excess use of the hand. Sometimes at work I take a moment to shake my hands a bit to relax the nerves. It also helps if we work for long hours not to wash with cold water.
Generally, if we rely mostly on our hands for a living, I think it is essential for us to take good care of it. We should not take our health for granted.

How often do we exercise? In this present time, let us admit, only the people with true passion in staying healthy can stand a long term exercise routine.
It has become a habit for the majority of us to do exercise only if we learn something serious about our health that needs to be taken care of. Sometimes, we only think of doing it if we need to go a to party so we would look good. Why can’t we make it a routine? Obviously, it is difficult. I believe that we only exercise for a reason. But the longevity of commitment is not long enough to maintain a healthy illness-free life.
Exercise has become an excuse for most of us. I think the abundance of life triggers all of us to maintain working out. But generally, exercise is the safest way to a healthy life. There is no surgery or pill required. Exercise combined with fruits is a perfect way to live healthy.
We should not take our health for granted because in the end, we will suffer the consequences. Life is short, let us make the most of it.

Eating hamburger has become one of the many junk foods that millions of people love to eat.
Did you know that eating too much of hamburger, french fries, and shake may result to cancer? A research conducted found that resisting to eat such fast foods may reduce the risk of getting colon cancer.
A survey was conducted to cancer patients and were asked what they have been eating a year before they were diagnosed. It was found out that majority of them ate more of the junk foods.
Sometimes it can be too addictive and we tend to forget about our own health safety. Eating fast food is not completely prohibited, but the discipline to one’s own health should be taken into consideration. We may feel ok, but eventually our body may not be capable enough to sustain our own health and may possibly acquire cancer.
Let us practice a healthy lifestyle starting of with our diet.
