Conjunctivitis is common infection of the eyes and it is also known as pink eye. This type of infection is viral and may spread from one person to the other in case of contact with the affected person.

Moreover there are other cases of conjunctivitis that are very rarely found such as those caused due to foreign bodies, chemicals, toxins, thermal and ultraviolet burns, overuse of contact lenses, exposure to chickens infected with Newcastle disease, dry eye and deficiency of essential vitamins.

In case of bacterial conjunctivitis the main factors responsible are pyogenic bacteria. It is more common in women and spreads easily when one shares a facial cream or eye make up.

Viral conjunctivitis is transmitted due to contact with a variety of contagious viruses. These viruses are similar to that of common cold viruses that may affect the upper portion of the respiratory tract.

When a person is allergic to a specific product he becomes more susceptible to get this form of conjunctivitis. This type of infection is more seasonal in nature. This type of conjunctivitis can be easily recognized by swollen eyelids. Several products such as cosmetics, perfumes, drugs and use of contact lenses may cause this type of conjunctivitis. It is also essential to take proper care in such an infection to prevent it from spreading further.
