Got Stress?

July 30th, 2008 by Irene Bellamy

If you are feeling stressed these days, get some food into your body that will help fight the effects of extra stress. Before reaching for that extra doughnut or candy bar to ease your worries, try some of these food choices:

Oranges

Studies have shown that people who eat oranges before giving a speech have lower levels of cortisol, and lower blood pressure than those those who don’t. So feel the stress heating up–take a break and peel an orange!

Mixed Nuts

Keep some of these in a bowl nearby.  Grab a handful when you are stressing out and you will be helping your body replace B vitamins which stress depletes very quickly. B Vitamins are needed to maintain nerve and brain cells. Walnuts give you lots of all-importat of zinc, and almonds will give you Vitamin E which helps fight cellular damage linked to chronic stress.

Dark Chocolate

This is just too much of a stress reliever to really give up, but just make sure you grab dark chocolate wen you are craving a chocolate fix!  Just eating that litle taste of heaven makes most of us feel a bit better on tough days, and the the antioxidant flavonoids in it are potent enough to fight cancer and heart disease, so you have to figure they’ve got to be able to temper tension’s effects.
