When we are young we think how terrible it must be to grow old, but new research is saying that elderly people are at their happiest so there should be no fear in getting older. The startling revelations found in the latest research found that the golden years really are golden, elderly Americans are the happiest and they are more socially active than the stereotype of the lonely senior suggests.

Senior citizens are more active these days so this is what keeps the depression and the blues away. Another reason older people are happier is because they have learned to be content with their lives. Younger people tend to not be as happy or as settled as we get as we age.

The researchers who did this study said they feel this is great news for the public to be aware of because it is typical for people to fear getting older and to not want that day to come. With the release of this news, researchers feel that maybe people will stop dreading aging.

In the study, 28,000 people were interviewed from ages 18 - 88 during the years 1972 - 2004.
