Sleeping Affects Weight

April 17th, 2008 by ff

I have struggled with weight issues all of my life, but more so over the past 10 years. I had lost over 80 pounds about 18 years ago. But when I quit smoking over 10 years ago, I started gaining weight. Then I became pregnant, gained 40 pounds, and never lost that weight.

I have tried multiple diets, exercise - you name it I have done it. But the one factor that I believe has truly affected my weight, or my lack of weight loss, is the fact that I have severe sleeping disturbances and disorders due to my chronic illnesses.

Most of us know it is a proven fact that if you don’t get enough sleep, your metabolism doesn’t function properly and weight gain or the lack of weight loss occurs.

Not only can lack of sleep cause weight gain but too much sleep can as well. So if you are suffering from depression, and you find that you are sleeping all of the time, you could be in danger of gaining weight.

I currently have a call into my family doctor hoping that she will be able to help me get my sleeping issues under control and that we can work on some sort of eating plan (not diet!) together.
