Popular Aromatherapy Scents #2

Aromatherapy has gained popularity as an alternative healing and mood inducer through the years. More and more people are learning about the different herbs and essential oils associated with aromatherapy. For a beginner in the field you can light incense or candles to create moods and take advantage of aromatherapy.

Lemon is a common scent and is very popular for aromatherapy. Lemony is believed to purify the spirit and invigorate the soul. Lemon often reminds people of a fresh and clean scent. You can use Lemon in aromatherapy to give yourself a lift and mask any unpleasant odors in a room such as pets, smoke or cooking odors.

Another scent that will lift your senses and spirits is Nutmeg. Nutmeg is often used in conjunction with cinnamon. Combining these scents is believed to give you a new burst of energy and rejuvenate your spirit. This is an excellent scent to burn in candles when you are feeling a little slow or groggy for the day. Other refreshing and energizing scents also include Pine and Peppermint.

Experiment around with the different scents to see which ones work the best to help your moods. You can sprinkle oils on the skin but be careful not to put too much. Some oils are a little harsh for the skin so be certain that it is a mild oil that won’t irritate you or your mood will definitely not be changed for the better.

Building Your Child’s Self-Image

Your child’s self-image is extremely important. It is through life that your child will look in the mirror on a daily basis. How your child learns to look at the mirror image and what they see as reality when they are adults can be greatly affected with how you help them develop their self-image as a child.

What is self image? Self image is how you see yourself in the mirror. It is your reality of what the mind interprets what is in the mirror. For example, someone might be obese but look in the mirror and see themselves as only a little over-weight. Someone else might have lots of grey and white hairs but look in the mirror and only notice a few. What the rest of the world sees and what we perceive in the mirror are often not exactly the same.

One of the important methods to increase your child’s positive self-image is to emphasize the good things about their physical features. Compliment how well that they did their hair that day. Talk about how a certain outfit makes them look so slim. Focus on helping your child to see the good things about their body and to view their bodies as attractive and healthy. This will enable them to have a stronger self-image when they are adults.

Encouraging Children to Drink Water

Water is very essential for our bodies. Children are no different in this regard. In fact, it is very important that children get enough fluids to prevent dehydration and kidney or urinary tract infections. It is extremely important for children to drink enough water during the day.

If your child is very active, you should encourage them to drink water. You can start children young drinking sugarless flavored water drinks and even plain water. This will get them used to drinking water and make it easier as they get older.

Drinking water can help to reduce fevers. It is also very good to do on hot or warm days. Many times people forget about water consumption for children because they get other drinks during the day. Also, if the weather is cold parents tend to worry less about dehydration. Encourage your children to drink water to have healthy bodies and immune systems.

Mental Wellness and the Quality of Life

There are various factors that determine our mental wellness or lack thereof. Our individual biology may create a true mental illness, but our environment and also our thought process has an impact on the positive or negative quality of mental health.

When we have a negative thought process, it creates a negative view of ourselves and the world around us, thus lessening the quality of life. The mind and body work together. If the mind is sending negative messages to the body, the body will more than likely suffer a negative impact.

Sending negative messages to ourselves, causes a sense of unworthiness, which causes a great deal of mental, emotional and physical stress. By the end of a day, we feel drained by the battle we have with ourselves.

By changing our negative thought process to a positive thought process, we instantly create a renewed energy. Instead of finding everything wrong with us, we need to acknowledge and embrace our uniqueness, talents and accomplishments.Become aware of what you tell yourself. Understand “why” you feel negatively. Ask yourself if the feeling is justified, are your thoughts rational or irrational. The instant that inner voice tells you something negative, say STOP and turn the thought into something positive. Stop worrying about what others think of you and start worrying about how you view yourself and the impact it has on your life.

If your environment causes an imbalance in your life - change it! Surrounding ourselves with clutter or anything with negative energy only enhances the negative mental picture we have of our life. Spend more time outdoors. Nature has a therapeutic effect on our mental health. You only have one life. Learn to live it well and healthy!

Many people do not realize the importance of darkness to help them to sleep. We are so used to being in a world that is full of light. Not only is there sunlight but we have lights all around the home. The television, alarm clock and even computer screen emit light into the room.

Our bodies will naturally be more tired with darkness. Have you ever noticed that you seem more fatigued on a rainy day or even during the middle of a movie at the theater? Your body senses the darkness and the mind prepares for sleep.

One of the best things to do about an hour before you lay down at night to rest is to darken your home. If you are watching television, lower the brightness on the TV screen. Turn off the lights in the room. This will allow you to watch your show to relax while your brain gets in gear to go to sleep. You will be amazed at how much easier it is to rest if you use darkness as your friend.

Hobbies Increase Emotional Wellbeing of the Elderly

Many times people think that becoming older means giving up hobbies. While there are some hobbies that an elderly person might have to forgo because of health conditions, it does not mean they have to give up completely on hobbies in general. Hobbies can increase the emotional wellbeing and contentment for life in the elderly.

If a person had to give up a hobby such as hiking or canoeing or painting, help them to find a new hobby that they can enjoy. There are many new hobbies that a senior can pick up and enjoy in life that are rewarding and fun. Hobbies help to pass the time and to keep the mind active. You should encourage seniors to participate in new hobbies and to try out new activities. This will keep them happier longer.

Water Consumption Important

Water consumption is very important for your body. Your body thrives on water. It is important to get a good quantity of water every single day. The more water that you can drink, the better that you will feel throughout the day.

One way to increase water consumption is to drink decaffienated and sugar free water additives. This will give the water flavor and make it easier to drink. You can use a variety of flavors and enjoy water.

Another alternative is to drink bottled water that comes in flavors. There are even bottled waters that minerals and vitamins added to them. This will give a boost to your body while you get in your water consumption.

A Little about Insulin

Many people do not realize how insulin works in the body. The primary thing that insulin does is remove excess sugar from the blood cells and transports them to the fat cells of the body. That is why many people gain weight when they get control of their diabetes and go on daily insulin shots. This is also a reason that you can have a difficult time losing weight if you’re diabetic.

Insulin is produced in the pancreas. You can have healthy amounts of insulin and not be able to use it. These people are insulin resistant and have to have oral medications or injections in order to increase the amount of insulin in the body. It’s not that you don’t produce enough insulin but that you don’t use it well. You have to have larger quantities of insulin to get the same effect as someone that isn’t diabetic.

Some people have problems and don’t produce enough insulin. For these people, it is important to have insulin in order to have enough in the body for it to do its work. Many people that don’t produce enough insulin end up having to take injections on a daily basis. It is harder to control the diabetes because the slightest change can affect the whole system.

Effect of Music on Mental Health

Music is a powerful tool when it comes to mental health. Listening to music can stimulate you, make you sad, make you happy or relax you. Some people have found that changing the types of music that they listen to will help them with their moods. This is an effective alternative method of handling certain mental conditions such as mild depression.

Think about the types of music that you listen to on a daily basis. If you are mildly depressed try to avoid songs that remind you sad events from your life. Focus on music that lifts your spirit and makes you happy. You can even listen to music that has humorous lyrics to give you a good dose of laughter.
